Testing can be manual or automated, and will include unit tests, regression tests, integration tests, functional tests, performance tests, and end to end tests, before being released to "super users" who then perform UAT or user acceptance tests.  And finally there are smoke tests - quick high level tests to check core functionality is working.

Manual tests are key as a first step, but, in order to enable Agile development, automated testing sequences have to be continually developed and run prior to each update.

End to end tests are complete tests of all elements of a system, where each process that runs within the software, is tested from the start, through to completion.
